Delhi to Dalhousie by road
| Distance | Driving time | Route |
|---|---|---|
| About 560 km | 11–12 hours | via Ambala, Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Pathankot |
A long run across Haryana and Punjab: Ambala, Ludhiana and Jalandhar on the highway, then Pathankot and the hill road up to Dalhousie. The last two hours are a steady climb. Most families break this trip, either with a night in Amritsar for the Golden Temple or in Pathankot, and arrive in Dalhousie fresh.
Because this is one of the longest drives on the site, we suggest a three-night minimum in Dalhousie so the trip is worth it. Families often add Khajjiar, Chamba and Dharamshala, coming back via Pathankot. Book trains or flights home from Pathankot or Amritsar if you want a shorter return.
Pickup in Delhi
We pick up from your home anywhere in Delhi NCR, IGI airport (T1, T2 or T3), New Delhi or Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station.
Arriving in Dalhousie
The town centre is narrow, so we drop you at your hotel or near Gandhi Chowk and wait at the nearest parking. Worth your time in Dalhousie: Khajjiar meadow, about 22 km away, Gandhi Chowk, Kalatop forest and Panchpula. See our Dalhousie page for more.
