Delhi to Shimla by road
| Distance | Driving time | Route |
|---|---|---|
| About 345 km | 8–9 hours | via Murthal, Ambala, Zirakpur and Parwanoo |
We pick you up in Delhi early, head up the GT Road with the classic parantha stop at Murthal, pass Panipat and Ambala and skirt Chandigarh at Zirakpur. The climb begins at Parwanoo, and the four-lane road through Solan brings you into Shimla in the afternoon. Leaving Delhi by 6 am beats both the city traffic and the weekend queue at Parwanoo.
Weekend departures from Delhi are the busiest, so a Thursday night or very early Friday start makes a big difference. For families with infants we plan an extra stop near Pinjore before the climb. Your hotel check-in in Shimla is usually from 1 or 2 pm, which matches this timing well.
Pickup in Delhi
We pick up from your home anywhere in Delhi NCR, IGI airport (T1, T2 or T3), New Delhi or Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station.
Arriving in Shimla
Vehicles are not allowed on the Mall Road, so we drop you at your hotel or the Cart Road lift up to the Ridge. Worth your time in Shimla: the Ridge and Mall Road, Jakhu temple, Kufri and the Viceregal Lodge (IIAS). See our Shimla page for more.
