Dharamshala to Jammu by road
| Distance | Driving time | Route |
|---|---|---|
| About 200 km | 5 hours | via Nurpur, Pathankot and Kathua |
From the Kangra valley we go down to Pathankot, cross the Ravi into Jammu and Kashmir near Madhopur and follow the highway through Kathua and Samba to Jammu. The road is mostly four-lane after Pathankot. Carry ID for every passenger; there are routine checks at the state border.
Jammu is the usual gateway for Vaishno Devi, Patnitop and Srinagar trips, and its airport and Jammu Tawi station have good connections. If Katra is your real destination, see our direct Dharamshala to Katra route. We plan fuel and lunch before the border so the group is not held up at the checks.
Pickup in Dharamshala
We pick up from Gaggal (Kangra) airport, Dharamshala bus stand, McLeodganj or your hotel; pickups in Kangra town add about 30 minutes.
Arriving in Jammu
Drops at Jammu Tawi railway station, Jammu airport or your hotel. Worth your time in Jammu: Raghunath temple and Bahu Fort.
