Chandigarh to Dharamshala by road
| Distance | Driving time | Route |
|---|---|---|
| About 240 km | 6 hours | via Ropar, Kiratpur and Una |
Out of Chandigarh via Kharar and Ropar, past Kiratpur and into Himachal at Una, then up through Dehra and Kangra to Dharamshala. It is the route most families take after flying into Chandigarh for the Kangra temples. Chintpurni is a short detour from Una if you want to begin darshan on the way up.
If your flight lands at Chandigarh around noon, you can still be in Dharamshala for dinner. For wedding parties and college groups we often do this run twice in one weekend. Ask us to stop at the Una bypass dhabas, which are clean and quick for a big group.
Pickup in Chandigarh
We pick up from Chandigarh airport, the railway station, ISBT Sector 43 or your home or hotel in Chandigarh, Mohali, Panchkula or Zirakpur.
Arriving in Dharamshala
We drop you at hotels in Dharamshala or up in McLeodganj; a few lanes there are too narrow for any 12 seater, so we stop at the nearest point. Worth your time in Dharamshala: the Dalai Lama temple in McLeodganj, Bhagsunag waterfall, the HPCA cricket stadium and Norbulingka. See our Dharamshala page for more.
What a Chandigarh to Dharamshala trip costs
A 2-day return trip covers about 480 km. Outstation trips are ₹40 per km with a minimum of 300 km a day, so the estimate is 600 km × ₹40 = ₹24,000 plus tolls, driver included.
