Shimla to Kasauli by road
| Distance | Driving time | Route |
|---|---|---|
| About 75 km | 2.5 hours | via Shoghi, Solan and Dharampur |
Kasauli is the easiest escape from Shimla: down the Kalka highway past Shoghi, Kandaghat and Solan, then a short climb from Dharampur through pine forest. It makes a relaxed day trip, or a lunch stop on the way down to Chandigarh. The Dharampur junction gets busy on weekend afternoons, so we usually leave Shimla after breakfast and return before the evening rush.
Kasauli has fewer crowds than Shimla, which suits elders and couples. Christ Church and the Mall are an easy walk from most hotels. If you continue to Chandigarh afterwards, the drop is only about an hour and a half from Kasauli.
Pickup in Shimla
We pick up from the ISBT at Tutikandi, Shimla railway station, Jubbarhatti airport or your hotel anywhere in town, Kufri or Mashobra.
Arriving in Kasauli
Parts of upper Kasauli are closed to vehicles, so we drop you at your hotel or the nearest point to the Mall. Worth your time in Kasauli: Christ Church, the Mall, Sunset Point and the Gilbert Trail walk.
What a Shimla to Kasauli trip costs
A return trip covers about 150 km. Both ends are in Himachal, so our daily rental applies: ₹9,500 a day with up to 250 km. That fits in 1 day, about ₹9,500 with the driver, plus tolls.
